M is for . . .

M is for Mondrian, Piet Mondrian. M is also for Moose, like the darn cutest moose you've ever seen, right? Things have been hectic at the new job, more on that later, but I have just a second to share the darling drawings my kindergartners created yesterday. 

I got this idea from my new obsession, pinterest.com. Please check it out, I do on the regular and I get so many great ideas! Below is the picture that inspired this project:

Rousseau

A few weeks ago my students and I began studying Henri Rousseau, specifically his jungle paintings, and paintings by other artists bearing similarity. We tackled this complex landscape painting by breaking it into two parts: figures and background. First though we sat and talked about what we were looking at and why we were seeing what we saw. 

Lil Wayne-ie Cakes

Happy V-day out there, I hope your heart is filled with love and warmth. I wanted to share with you a project that I've decided to add to all of my classes after introducing it to my kinders last week. We studied Wayne Thiebaud because frankly, I love valentine's day and cake. I cut out some triangles and parallelograms for the students to glue onto the paper and then instructed them in creating the cake slices around the shapes.

My little guys then decorated the slices of cake in their own unique way. They look delicious! Anybody wanna skip over to Bleeding Heart Bakery with me for a little happy?
